The 25 de Abril quarter in Meia Praia is located between the beach and the train line that takes us to the city of Lagos. It started out as a collection of huts improvised by ‘Indians’ from Monte Gordo who just wanted to survive the golden dream that Lagos was unable to fulfil. After the Carnation Revolution, and through the Local Ambulatory Support Service (S.A.A.L) architectural plan, the huts were transformed into houses built by the inhabitants themselves. Many of the political promises made thirty years ago remain unfulfilled. What would it be like to live in Meia-Praia today?
