Darwin's Evolution
Documentary | 2009 | 37' | 16:9
February the 12th, 2009 was the commemoration day of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth. 150 years have been passed since his seminal work’s publication On the origin of species by means of natural selection. Few men have had such a vast influence on Western civilisation as Darwin. His work played a crucial role in shaping the conception of what Nature is, challenging most of the established beliefs about life and about our importance as a species.
From February 12th to May 24th the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation paid tribute to Charles Darwin, the father of Science and Modern Biology. Thanks to this initiative an exhibition was organised and it worked as a stage for listening, observations, discussions and comprehension about what Darwin and his work concern.
This exhibition featured videos with scripts and interviews of Thiago Carvalho and Filipa Vala and directed by Pedro Sena Nunes, Fábio M. Martins and Petar Toskovic, with testimonies from various national and international scientists, who paid tribute to a man who learned, analysed, invented, created, cooperated and lived to imagine scientifically.
